France | Local news | 26-03-2008 21:01 | France Diplomatie

France, with Lebanon’ s other partners, expresses its concern at this further postponement and the prospect of thus seeing the election delayed another four weeks.

Just days ahead of the Arab League summit, France reaffirms the support it has provided, along with the European Union, to the plan that was unanimously adopted by the Arab League states in January, the first point of which provides for the presidential election to be held without delay. We regret that Lebanon cannot be represented at the Arab summit by a president.

Situation in Tibet (18.03.08)

France | Local news | 20-03-2008 19:01 | France Diplomatie

Excerpt from the press briefing by Bernard Kouchner (March 18, 2008)

"Obviously, there must be an investigation into what has happened.(...)But there is one initial international inquiry that ought to be made— by journalists. Journalists don’ t have access, and they must have access to the territory in question— to Tibet in particular but not just there since there are incidents apparently beyond Tibet. So that seems to me to be an obvious necessity since our Chinese friends have recognized the universality of human rights. Well, the right to information has to be respected."
